17 May Redmi K20: Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi flagship
The Redmi K20, a flagship product of the Xiaomi alternative brand, will be soon official. In the meantime, teasers and leaks are multiplying on the web, revealing almost the entire technical data sheet of the new upcoming mobile phone.
The day after OnePlus’ press conference during which the brand presented its last two smartphones, Redmi, Xiaomi’s alternative brand, published a teaser for its next flagship. The link between the two events? Redmi claimed that the OnePlus 7 Pro no longer meets the definition of “flagship killer”. On the other hand, a replacement for the title was coming to Redmi: the K20.
Screen without border, new clean design!
Still, on the photo side, the K20 would be equipped with a 20-megapixel camera.
It would be stored in a motorized drawer located, logically, in the upper edge of the smartphone. This information is confirmed by a teaser revealing the design of the mobile, including its screen without borders, holes or notches. The size of this slab is not specified, but it should probably exceed 6 inches. Previous rumors had been that a 6.39 inches screen (Full HD+ definition) was expected.
Finally, the screen, Amoled, would include a fingerprint reader, like many competitors in this first part of the year. It would be an optical and not an ultrasonic sensor, a solution that focuses more on the economy than speed. However, the sensor would be of the “seventh generation.” Understand that the sensor is equipped with larger photosensitive cells. The result: the capture would be more accurate, the processing faster and the compatible surface larger.
Large battery and 48-megapixel photo sensor
What is the Redmi K20? It is the flagship of the alternative brand that will work with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855, which has been rumored to exist since the beginning of the year and has been confirmed by a spokesperson. The phone will be official in a week, information made official by the teaser teaser teaser. No 5G of course here, since this would considerably increase its price for a use that is still quite limited today. On the other hand, many different technologies will be embedded in the phone.
It is what official teasers posted on Weibo in recent days reveal, as well as some leaks. First of all, the K20 will benefit from a massive 4000 mAh battery compatible with fast charging (accepting chargers with a maximum power of 18 watts). The K20 would also be equipped with Sony’s famous IMX586, a 48-megapixel photo sensor that is currently popular with smartphone manufacturers. K20’s slow-motion mode would increase to 960 frames per second.
A Pro version available?
So here is the portrait of the K20, which seems to be able to compete with large scale projects, however, with two downsides. We learn from recent leaks that a K20 Pro could accompany the K20. It would considerably reduce the impact of the criticism leveled against OnePlus.
Then, the teasers carefully avoid revealing the configurations. Rumors were that there would be 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage for the K20. Is that all?
